A Message from our President
April 7, 2020
April 7, 2020
First of all, on behalf of the Board of Directors and staff, I trust you are all safe and healthy and making the best of the ongoing situation.
We are certainly experiencing some difficult times right now and I’m sure we can all agree that we are looking forward to normal life again and hopefully soon.
Today, I would like to give an update on where Recreation NL is sitting right now and what the upcoming months will bring for our organization.
As many of you are aware by now, we have implemented a work-from-home protocol for the safety of our staff and have either postponed or cancelled all upcoming events including the 2020 Atlantic Recreation & Facilities Conference and Trade Show. We have also decided to postpone to Recreation NL AGM and Volunteer Forum. Right now, it is difficult to reschedule the AGM and Volunteer Forum but we will certainly keep our members informed as we move forward on this.
I want to assure you that work at Recreation NL has not stopped and we remain connected to our membership and publics through alternate measures. Our website will have current information/news and we are using our social media platforms to stay connected to you. We are currently working with our Recreation Practitioner Committee on setting up more communications for Recreation Practitioners so they have a way to stay connected to each other and to us. We hope it will provide an opportunity to seek advice from each other and the organization, gain much-needed support, and to ask questions.
I would also encourage those of you to read what the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association (CPRA) is recommending concerning our sector. They have created information that may be of value to you. Please visit: https://www.cpra.ca/covid19 to find out more. They are also hosting a ‘Work From Home’ Webinar (April 9th) that may also interest you and help you with your work/life balance. You can register here.
Rest assured, we will get through these trying times, both individually and collectively and we will overcome and get back to a normal life.
Stay safe, stay healthy and stay active. Let’s all continue to flatten the curve.
President, Recreation NL
