Each year RNL holds its Annual General Meeting and Conference. The Association accepts proposals from interested communities to co-host this event. The Board of Directors of the RNL is responsible for the selection of the community which co-host the annual conference, and the decision is based upon an application that includes all information as requested in the hosting guidelines.

Once a community is selected to host the AGM & Conference, a Conference Host Committee, with the name of the chairperson and other Sub-Committee chairpersons, is determined. The organizing committee then plans an informative and enjoyable event, expected to attract approximately 150 delegates.

The Conference Agenda normally consists of keynote speakers, informative workshops covering many aspects of recreation, several social events that allows recreation practitioners to exchange ideas and programs, an exhibitor's tradeshow that features a large number of companies and programs who deal with parks and recreation, business meetings that consist of election of Board members, resolutions and presentations, regional meetings that allows delegates living within various regions to meet and discuss common issues and ideas, and a Saturday night awards banquet that serves to recognize individuals and communities making a significant contribution to recreation.
