COVID-19 Update to Members
August 26, 2020
Recreation NL recently met with our partners and the provincial government on the status of the Public Health Guidelines relating to recreation and sport. The following information came from that meeting:
- First and foremost clarification was provided that indicated we will likely not be moving to Alert Level 1 any time soon. Alert level 1 will only come when the world-wide situation improves. We will be at Alert level 2 for a while but can relax measures as we move along. Changes will not be tied to Alert Level changes. Updating of Level 2 guidance for the foreseeable future will be the approach.
- With respect to our Summary Document (based on member feedback and draft level 1 documents) the government: Accepted our request to have more consistency among documents especially for arenas, sport and indoor facilities; Will consider our additional aspects on the After School Program Guidelines; Will give further consideration to the opening of dressing rooms in all recreation facilities and possibly make changes to the guidance.
- We also had a discussion on the Special Measures Order on Masks, effective Monday, August 24th and the Return to School Plan (also see Covid-19 Recreation Practitioner Committee document on Mask Order and Return to School – here) which we provided them. They indicated that the message was to use common sense. Everyone should be wearing them into building lobbies and within common spaces. Masks can be removed when changing and there is no need to wear it on benches. Each facility/group should determine the opportunities to wear a mask that reflect the location and nature of the activity.
Please note that has been an update on Guidance for Distanced Gatherings – effective August 24.
