This is a part-time position (20-24 hours per week) designed to work with the Canadian Drowning Prevention Coalition Steering Committee to coordinate and develop the Canadian Drowning Prevention Plan. The aspirational long-term goal of the Plan is for zero drowning deaths in Canada in 50+ years. The plan is dynamic and changes as often as every six months to reflect the progress of data, actions, and outcomes in key focus areas for drowning prevention.
A significant component of this role will be coordinating the Canadian Drowning Prevention Coalition, a group of stakeholders tasked with developing and implementing drowning prevention strategies. Further, the project manager is expected to co-ordinate the appointment of Technical Working Group leaders in key focus areas for drowning prevention and provide administrative support to the Technical Working Groups. The successful applicant will be an experienced project manager who will provide coordination and assistance in the collaboration of several participant organizations from a variety of sectors including not-for-profit, government, educational and private agencies.
Ideally, the Project Manager will work out of the National office of the Lifesaving Society in Ottawa, ON. However working out of one of the branch offices of the Lifesaving Society may be possible. S/he will be considered a part-time employee of the Lifesaving Society and will be eligible for participation in the benefits plan as per current policies. The salary range will be $25 – $30/per hour, commensurate with qualifications.
The position will require strong consensus-building skills with staff, volunteers, participating organizations, government representatives and others. Maintaining a link with corresponding strategies within the global drowning prevention community and within other countries will be essential.
Excellent verbal and written English skills are required along with a high level of facilitation and interpersonal skills. Prior experience writing grant applications and proposals will be considered an asset. Considerable knowledge of the needs and issues within public health as they relate to drowning prevention is essential. Proof of prior proficient management of financial/human resources will be an asset and bilingualism is preferred. The position will provide all administrative support to the Canadian Drowning Prevention Coalition, Coalition Steering Committee, and Technical Working Groups. Strong administrative and organizational skills are necessary.
