The Department of Health and Community Services is seeking individuals from across Newfoundland and Labrador interested in serving on project teams designed to implement the recommendations in the report of the All-Party Committee on Mental Health and Addictions (APC), Towards Recovery: A Vision for a Renewed Mental Health and Addictions System for Newfoundland and Labrador.
Eight project teams will be established, organized around common themes, each tasked with developing plans to implement specific recommendations outlined in Towards Recovery. Each team has a chairperson already in place and will be accountable to a Provincial Implementation Team. The following is a list of teams with corresponding recommendation numbers from Towards Recovery:
- Mental Health Promotion/Prevention: 1, 6, 11, 47;
- Wait Times Reduction: 13, 21;
- Inclusion: 7, 8, 24, 26, 33, 38, 39, 41, 42, 49;
- Health in Correctional Settings: 16,17,18;
- Health in Schools: 2, 3, 5;

- Provincial Services: 25, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 40; and
- Indigenous Health: 34 (this team may be constructed differently. It will be determined in consultation with and by Indigenous partners).
We are seeking people from a variety of different backgrounds and experiences: people with lived experience of mental illness and/or addiction; family members; people with experience of being incarcerated with a mental illness or addiction; people with disabilities; people in the deaf community; LGBTQ2S peoples; Indigenous peoples; immigrant, refugee, ethnocultural or racialized peoples; government employees; regional health authority staff and physicians; academics; students; advocates; youth; seniors; and community agency staff. If you have interest and experience/expertise in one of these project areas, would like to be part of making significant changes to either the mental health and addictions treatment system or the mental well being of all people in our province and are able to commit the time to participate in this important work, we’d like to hear from you!
Project teams will be meeting over a one to five-year period, depending on the specific recommendations assigned to the team. Teams will meet at least monthly with teleconference and/or videoconference capability for those geographically outside the meeting area. There will be team related work to do between meetings. Team membership will be voluntary and unpaid.
Not all recommendations contained in the Towards Recovery report are listed or assigned to the project teams. As well, teams may also be assigned projects that are not contained in specific recommendations but are related to the theme area.
For employees of government, regional health authorities and community agencies, please obtain approval of your employer prior to applying.
