St. John’s, NL – Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador (RNL) recently proclaimed June as Recreation Month. On May 26, the Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation, signed the official proclamation declaring June 2021 as Recreation Month in Newfoundland and Labrador.

“Engaging in ‎recreation activities provides opportunities for increasing physical activity, strengthening personal development, providing enjoyment, reducing stress, and improving mental health. This all adds up to increased individual and community well-being. Our government is committed to supporting recreation partners and providers throughout the province. I encourage everyone to celebrate Recreation Month by finding ways to stay active.” said Minister Crocker, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation.

“Today we recognize June as Recreation Month. This year, we’re celebrating 50 years of bringing recreation to this province,” said Gerry Hall, President of RNL.

“We want to remind people that recreation includes all the activities that bring health and wellness to our lives.”

Recreation Month helps the public view recreation as more than just physical activity. It also encompasses as aspects of social, intellectual, creative and spiritual pursuits that enhance individual and community wellbeing. “Through this new understanding of recreation, people have access to countless recreational opportunities,” said Hall.
