There is significant movement on smoke free policies for outdoor recreation and sport areas in the Province.
Attached is the updated list with populations. As you can see, ACT now have 38 communities on board, representing a total population of 174,661. ACT also know that they should be hearing something from St. John’s, CBS, Port aux Basques, Pasadena, Placentia and Gambo in the very near future. Once these communities come on board, the policy will cover over 300,000 residents of our Province.
ACT could use your help to reach other municipalities. Check the attached list – if your community is not listed then speak to a councilor and share this information with them. One concern that continues to be raised by municipal leaders is enforcement. Attached is a small information sheet concerning this issue which may help you answer any questions which arise.
Also, to help support communities which have implemented a policy, ACT is working on a brief handout outlining how best to promote and communicate the policy within the community. As soon as these are available ACT will share it with you.
