Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador’s Board of Directors and Staff would like to introduce Marty, the Newfoundland Pine Marten. Marty was launched at Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador’s 38th AGM & Conference in May and toured the province visiting schools with the June is Recreation Month Provincial School Tour show “Destination Recreation”. Marty is available to RNL members as a rental service that can be used for community events and festivals.
Marty, is the Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador ambassador for healthy and active living and the mascot for June is Recreation Month. Marty, the Newfoundland Pine Marten is one of 14 native species of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Newfoundland Pine Marten is a unique animal and is not found anywhere else in the world. The majority of Newfoundland Pine Martens are found on the West Coast, however they can be seen in many forested areas around the province. Marty, is a high spirited, energetic, and enthusiastic character who loves to interact with children, youth and families to help spread the word of healthy and active living.
