2018 ParticipACTION Report Card on Physical Activity for Children and Youth
The 2018 ParticipACTION Report Card on Physical Activity for Children and Youth has just been released! This year’s report card titled “Canadian Kids Need to Move More to Boost their Brain Health” includes an expert statement on physical activity and brain health in children and youth. It highlights the benefits that physical activity has on kids most vital and complex organ – the brain. Even short bouts of regular physical activity can help kids brains on many levels, including better cognition, brain function and mental health.
The ParticipACTION Report Card is the most comprehensive assessment of child and youth physical activity in Canada and brings data from multiple sources together to assign grades across 14 indicators. The report card is distributed every two years and provides evidence that Canadian kids are still not moving enough. This year the Report Card has given a D+ for overall physical activity starting that only 35% of 5- 17 year olds and 62% of 3-4 year olds are achieving the recommended physical activity levels for their age group.
