Premier Ball Announces Carrot Rewards Milestone

Today, the Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, joined by the Honourable Lisa Dempster, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development, and Andreas Souvaliotis, founder and CEO of Carrot Rewards, celebrated reaching the milestone of having more than 31,000 Carrot Rewards users in Newfoundland and Labrador. This surpasses the goal of engaging 10,000 new users by March 31, 2018.

Carrot Rewards is a free mobile app that rewards users for living healthier, active lives. App users collect loyalty points from participating providers (Aeroplan, Scene and Drop), for downloading the app, referring friends and completing health-focused activities, like participating in quizzes and achieving daily step targets.

In June 2016, Newfoundland and Labrador became the second province to launch the Carrot Rewards initiative. The app supports healthy living objectives that encourage parents and children to make healthy active living a priority in daily life. In The Way Forward, the province committed to raising its baseline of 18,000 users by 10,000 new users by March 31, 2018.

Carrot Rewards was developed with the support of founding partners, the Public Health Agency of Canada and the British Columbia Ministry of Health. Other partners include the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador and a cross-sectoral coalition made up of loyalty partners and three of the leading health charities in Canada: the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Diabetes Association and YMCA Canada.

“Healthy active living is such an important part of our daily lives, and the benefits it creates are well documented. Through the Carrot Rewards interactive app, we are helping encourage physical activity and healthy living among children, youth, families and individuals of all ages. Today’s milestone is a perfect example of how people are eager to learn and add activity into their daily lives.”
Honourable Lisa Dempster
Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development

“We are proud to be a health and wellness partner with over 31,000 Newfoundland and Labrador users. Having six per cent of Newfoundland and Labrador’s total population engaged is an amazing milestone, and proves how this innovative province has embraced and championed their way to become the most Carrot-engaged province in Canada. The impact, in terms of potential behaviour change, is truly remarkable. We are inspiring so many of our fellow citizens to be more physically active every-day and to learn so much more about their health and wellness.”
