Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador Announces Partnership with ParticipACTION and 2nd Annual Find Your Fit! Community Physical Activity Challenge
March 24, 2016
St. John’s, NL – Today, Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador announced its province-wide partnership with ParticipACTION and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador at the launch of its second annual Find Your Fit! Community Physical Activity Challenge today at the Rotary Youth & Community Centre in Paradise. The partnership between ParticipACTION, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador and Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador will provide ongoing digital communications to inspire families to make physical activity a priority. Communities and individuals across Newfoundland and Labrador are being supported to get more active throughout the month of April with the province-wide physical activity challenge focused on healthy, active living.
“Busy lives get in the way of being active on a regular basis, but it doesn’t have to be that way,” said Elio Antunes, President and CEO, ParticipACTION. “ParticipACTION is proud to work with Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador to become a go-to source for families for the inspiration and information they need to make more active choices in their daily lives. We encourage you to get up, get outside and get involved in the community challenge.”
“Getting active in our communities is important to ensuring our physical, mental and emotional health and well-being,” said Annette Oldford, Acting President of Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador. “So far we have 42 communities registered for the challenge and it’s not too late for other communities to join in.”
Communities interested in participating in the 2016 Find Your Fit! Challenge can register with Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador at www.recreationnl.com/findyourfit. By signing up, communities have access to a variety of tools, resources and ideas to get their residents involved. Communities also earn a chance to win physical activity prizes for their participation, including a grand prize worth $5000 or one of five regional prizes worth $1000 in physical activity equipment. Individuals are also eligible for prizes by following Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador on their Facebook and Twitter pages.
“Our communities across the province offer many different ways to fit in activity, from walking and hiking trails to playground and dog parks to community and rec centres,” added Tina Auchinleck-Ryan, Chair of Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador’s Physical Activity Advisory Committee. “Regardless of age or ability, there are ample opportunities for us all to find our fit and get active every day.”
The important message of making time for more daily activity is reinforced in ParticipACTION’s latest Make Room for Play video, running online and on television across Newfoundland and Labrador.
Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador hosted the 2016 Find Your Fit! launch event, in partnership with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, ParticipACTION and the Town of Paradise. The Department of Seniors, Wellness and Social Development financially supports the programs and services of Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador.
