Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador and ParticipACTION team up to help Newfoundlanders and Labradorians get moving!

St. John’s, NL – Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador and ParticipACTION team up to the third annual Find Your Fit! Community Physical Activity Challenge today to inspire Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to make physical activity a priority. Communities and individuals across the province are being supported to get more active throughout the month of April with the province-wide physical activity challenge focused on healthy, active living and the ParticipACTION 150 Play List.

“Busy schedules, sedentary jobs and hours spent indoors have left little room for physical activity in everyday life, but we can change that,” said Elio Antunes, President and CEO, ParticipACTION. “We’re honoured to once again team up with Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador and the Government of Newfoundland & Labrador to inspire families to move more and sit less and showcase the ParticipACTION 150 Play List.”

“A physically active lifestyle is important to the health and wellbeing of our communities and the people who live there, said Annette Oldford, President of Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador.” The Find Your Fit! Community Physical Activity Challenge and the ParticipACTION 150 Play List combination is the perfect opportunity to get our communities more active.”

The Find Your Fit! Community Physical Activity Challenge is a province-wide physical activity challenge taking place throughout April that aims to get communities motivated and moving toward healthy, active living through physical activity challenges and education.

ParticipACTION created the 150 Play List to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday. It is the ultimate list of 150 physical activities that define us as Canadian. Canadians are being challenged to try as many of the activities on the list as possible, with events taking place from coast to coast to coast to give Canadians the chance to get moving and participate.

Communities interested in participating in the 2017 Find Your Fit! Challenge can register with Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador at By signing up, communities have access to a variety of tools, resources and ideas to get their residents involved. Communities also earn a chance to win physical activity equipment for their participation, including one of ten regional prizes worth $1000 in physical activity equipment. Individuals are also eligible for prizes by following Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador on their Facebook and Twitter pages.

“We have 36 communities registered for the challenge so far and it’s not too late for other communities to join in,” added Oldford. “There are many different ways to get active across our province using the ParticipACTION 150 Play List from hiking trails and ski hills to playgrounds and dog parks to community and rec centres programs.”
