The 2008 Newfoundland and Labrador Summer Games are taking place in beautiful Corner Brook August 9-16, 2008. Held every second year, alternating winter and summer, the Games is the largest multi-sport event staged for the youth of the province, bringing together young athletes from 11 to 18 years of age from all regions of the province to share in the spirit of athletic competition.
This event will bring approximately 3,000 athletes, coaches, managers and parents from across the province into Corner Brook and will showcase nine sports: tennis, swimming, beach volleyball, athletics, softball, baseball, golf, ball hockey and soccer.
Designed to generate participation in sport and to foster sportsmanship and the development of athletic skills, the Newfoundland and Labrador Summer Games will welcome nine regions, including the 2008 Host Region of Corner Brook to compete for three awards: The Premier's Cup, The Sport Newfoundland and Labrador Trophy and The Lieutenant Governor's Award.
The Games are managed by a local host committee and any funds generated as a result of these Games will go directly into sport and leisure services within the City of Corner Brook. The committee's hope is to create a legacy that will contribute to the overall health, well-being and enjoyment of all community members for many years to come.
