Lewisporte, with a population of 3,409, is a great place to build a new home and raise a family. It has a variety of recreation facilities with one of the most popular being Woolfrey’s Pond Trail and Campgrounds. This serviced RV Park has a 7 km nature trail, campsites and sandy beach, to name only a few of its many attractions. The Town also has several recreation facilities such as a playground, soccer pitch, softball fields, running track and a stadium. It is home to the famous Annual Mussel Bed Soiree Concert featuring popular musical acts from across the province, and the country. It has a world-class marina, a deep-water port and related facilities that serve many communities in the region and attract recreation mariners internationally. The Town of Gander with an International Airport is only a 30-minute drive to the east of Lewisporte. Another major regional center, the Town of Grand Falls – Windsor, is a 45-minute drive to the west.

Lewisporte is hiring a Director of Recreation and Tourism to provide leadership and direction for the Recreation and Tourism Department. Reporting to the Town Manager, the Director of Recreation and Tourism is responsible for the development and delivery of public recreation programs and services focused on youth services, seniors, health and wellness activities and community events to further the growth and development of all residents of Lewisporte in accordance with the service levels approved by Council and within approved budgets. In consultation with the Town Manager and community groups, the Director is responsible for recreation programming, promotion of leadership and volunteer development, and the research and preparation of grant application and fundraising.

This is a fulltime position with competitive compensation commensurate with experience and qualifications and a competitive benefits package.

The Director of Recreation and Tourism is a recreation manager with a post-secondary education in the field of Business Management, Recreation, Physical Education, or a related field; four (4) or more years’ experience in a municipal setting as a recreation professional with at least two (2) years management experience; demonstrated ability to communicate and interact effectively, to work effectively with various groups and organizations, to effectively manage employees and volunteers, and possess tact and discretion to deal with or settle requests and complaints; or any equivalent combination of experience and training acceptable to the Town. The successful candidate must be willing to live within a thirty (30) minute commute of Lewisporte.
